Ponderize

by Christie Perkins

I feel a ray of sunshine splash in my life every time I watch General Conference. Messages of goodness and hope fill the dark corners of my soul. I am energized by listening to my inspired church leaders.

So thank you! (I’m sending that into the universe since I don’t really know their  exact mail slot plot).

howperkyworks.com (1)One talk specifically inspired me by Devin G. Durrant. He talked about the power gained when we “ponderize.” He suggested finding one scripture a week that you can write down and think about daily.

I invite you to do the same. No matter your religion, find a scripture and focus on it for a week. Place it where you can see it. Let it change, help, and guide you.

Scripture Power

I couldn’t wait to let this start working. I grabbed a scratch paper and penciled it in. Psh! Forget fancy. Not this time. I first put it on the fridge but I realized the modge podge of random important papers ate it’s influence.

I decided on a better spot. I tucked it on top of my earring tray in my bathroom. I never go without my earrings and it’s part of my morning routine- great way to jump start the day. The scripture came to me in family scripture study. It was bold and simple but it was exactly of the power I was carried by in my difficult time through cancer.

And I was amazed at how much I needed it this week. I have felt an actual strength lift and carry me. There have been times I have got on my knees concerned about the health of my child, the direction of a presentation, throwing my back out, and worries of the unknown. Each time this scripture came back to my mind.

And a little peace entered my soul. Simultaneously my trust in the Savior was deepening.

Evidence of Strength

Over the course of this week as I pondered on the meaning of this scripture my mind goes directly to General Conference. A moment when I saw an actual strengthening. A literal strength is evident in the prophet.

As I watched the prophet, Thomas S. Monson, I saw that this strength was literally bearing him up in his talk. He had the strength the entire talk and you saw that he was carried. What a blessed and faithful man our prophet is. What an example of goodness he emulates. Near the end of his talk, and only at the end, you see his strength weaken. Afterall, he is 88 years old. (Gasp! That’s my favorite age…so cool).

He, too, was carried.

He was leaning on the strength of our Savior. What a powerful witness to me.

You see, he is carried by the strength of our Heavenly Father. I fully believe it was evident of the power that he carries as the mouthpiece of our Heavenly Father. He is able to do all that the spirit requires of him.

So this week I have been strengthened by a little scripture. A  scripture that I normally would have passed by on my way to bed time. This time it lingered in my heart and my thoughts. It affected me and changed me.

“Ponderizing” one simple scripture strengthened me. Just another ray of sunshine.

Can’t wait to see what next week brings.

What scripture are you going to use? I want to hear it’s powerful effect on you.

  1. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” Philippians 4:13. As I go through my daily life, I often get overwhelmed by the many responsibilities that demand my time. I know I CAN do all things IF I come unto Christ, rely on His strength and trust in Him. Great job Christie!

    • Great job Scott! This is a good reminder for me- He fills in the gaps. I have to trust in that. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Ether 12:6 6 And now, I, Moroni, would speak somewhat concerning these things; I would show unto the world that faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith.
I chose this scuripture to ponderize because I can always strive to have more faith. As I was ponderizing this week I found a note in my scriptures attached to this exact verse with an amazing quote referring to a conference talk from April 2003 called “The Sustaining Power of Faith in Times of Uncertainty and Testing” by Richard G. Scottt (my favorite apostle) I read the whole talk and the spirit spoke right to me. I know I recieved answers to my concerns and doubts because of ponderizing and following the council that was given by conference.
Thanks for posting this inspirational blog!! You are amazing!!

    • Oh this is so true! Thanks for sharing Callie 🙂 I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted a witness before plunging into something and I didn’t receive my confirmation, or lack of confirmation, until after I was willing to take that step of faith.

    • Julie! I’m totally keeping you as my friend! Jacob 4:7 “Nevertheless, the Lord God showeth us our weakness that we may know that it is by his grace, and his great condescensions unto the children of men, that we have power to do these things.”
